My Pynchonian Life

Anyone out there Thomas Pynchon fans? This post is for you!

My problems with technology (a previous post was my love letter to technology) is that I am now so burned into the grid, there are a dozen IP adresses with my accounts linked to them. I do homework, communication, day work, and publishing all online.

Everytime you post a blog, it is known where you are at that very moment just by an IP trace (or so I believe)! I am a law abiding citizen (except for occasionally cursing in public), but I still don't know how I feel about that. Thomas Pynchon lives the great American dream by being completely off the grid! How did he get to be so clever? It's just so strange knowing there's a technological map that leads to your fingertips.

Also, I'm finding my old online handle as Maxwell's Demon beginning to catch up with me. As I go through connotea, delicious (salacious) and Refworks, I find I am just like that subatomic entity organizing chaotic bits of info into logical and arbitrary pockets. This is not a complaint, but an observation that made me laugh (I actually love it in a very sick way). Required reading for Information Science students: The Crying of Lot 49! I can see that as becoming my life story...

Hey Chip,
I enjoy reading your posts. Couldn't agree more about the impact of the "real" world.
