Well, it's a week to loathe.
Tonight the board meets to decide what cutbacks they are going to make in order to make the budget from the town. I'm a department head and have been here for four years, but the library, as we know it, will certainly change.
To be honest, it's my hope that Public Library work is in its final stages for me. If I can find anything else. I love my job, but the politics all around and within it are hard.
The spin they might give this aspect is that it's a challenge because of the politics. In my book, a challenging career and a pain in the neck are two different things. Finding a program to mine the Internet and nest it in a suitable index is a challenge. Dealing with people who have limited understanding of your livelihood is a pain in the neck. Big difference!
I admit that I have a limited understanding of where they stand, as well, but this only complicates it. I don't envy anyone else's positition in this game, either. Good people have to make crummy lose-lose decisions everyday.
I love my job, I'd rather be working with the predictable machines in the background while remaining oblivious to the rest of the system. But, I'd miss the people.
My endeavor with Google scholar and Scopus have been a pleasure, and I'm still working out Koha. Glut is a wonderful read! I love old books, and this reads like a antiquarian book collector's overview. Nicholas Basbanes kind of stuff!
